Milestone One

The case study presented in this course is ITURRALDE v. HILO MEDICAL CENTER USA.  In this case, the parties are Rosalinda Iturralde and Hilo Medical Center.  The plantiff, Rosalinda Iturralde is representing the Estate of Arturo Iturralde, the patient discussed in this case.  Hilo Medical Center is a non-profit cooperation located in Hawaii where the patient was given medical care.  Arturo Iturralde sought medical attention after experiencing multiple falls and increasing weakness to bilateral lower legs.  At Hilo Medical Center in 2001, Arturo Iturralde was seen by Dr. Ricketson, an orthopedic surgeon credentialed through the hospital, and diagnosed with degenerative spondylolisthesis L4–5 with stenosis.  Dr. Ricketson recommended that the patient received spinal fusion surgery to relieve the condition and scheduled the surgery
