Abstract
We will learn that between 2000 to 2008 the Unites State population grew at a slower rate which became a total of 1,610,446 inmates in the correctional system. That the growth of the prison population in 2000 was less than the 1/3 of the past rates. For the slow growth within the state correctional system population was due to fewer court commitments in 2006 to 2008. That correctional system admission also played a factor in the change in the population. As the increase in the prison releases is what led to offender being in the community without supervision. From the population changes we found that from 2000 to 2008 the number of blacks in the correctional population decreased by 18,000. That also lower rates in men and women in the correctional system (Sabol, West, & Copper, 2009).
